Seated kavadi bearer

Here we see a worshipper preparing to carry a kavadi. Notice the steel belt around his waist. Despite that support, a kavadi cannot be carried for the hours of the festival by any normal man because of its weight and bulk. Some are so large, they take four men to attach one to a kavadi-bearer.
