In the article Turning 50, Robert James Waller constructs a list of ways he would like to die ("falling off a cliff") and a list of ways he wouldn't like to die ("in bed"). My preferred way to go would be "in a hail of bullets to a U2 soundtrack". My list, I notice, seems to consist of deaths in which I have a hand in making. I refuse to die an accidental death.
