One of hundreds of kavadi-bearers with a procession of drum players. The kavadi is a heavy ornament attached to a worshipper's body by means of steel spears and hooks. A kavadi can weigh as much as a man but the carriers happily sacrifice themselves and feel no pain, thanks to their prayers. These days, the kavadi is less painful because it is supported also by a steel belt around the carrier's waist. |
